
Everything started on a Saturday morning on 28 June 1969, when lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender rioted in New York City. The protest was a reaction to a police raid on a gay bar the Stonewall Inn,at 43 Christopher Street, New York City which tool place the night before. Further protests were organized the following nights.
This was the start of the LGBT rights movement and on November 2 Craig Rodwell, his partner Fred Sargeant, Ellen Broidy, and Linda Rhodes proposed the first pride march to be held in New York City. Since then similar marches were organized in others American cities and it spread around the world.
In this pictures series you will find some of the Folsom Street Fair (FSF) which is an annual event held on the last Sunday of September in Folsom Street in San Francisco (CA). The parade started first in 1984 and focus on BDSM and leather gay culture.
